Speaker Nabih Berri hit back at former Prime Minister Saad Hariri on Monday, saying that the Future Party leader should have practiced his hobby of diving rather than being involved in politics.

“Hariri has revealed in his electronic interviews a number of his personal hobbies, one of which is diving,” Berri said in a statement.
“The Lebanese have also discovered a new hobby of the ‘sheikh’ which is politics. Better he dive in the former than the latter,” he added.

Earlier, Hariri told his followers on Twitter on the occasion of Eid al-Adha that he would not vote for Berri during the next elections for the speakership.
“No voting for Berri anymore if we win the election. That is a promise,” Hariri said.

The former premier also tweeted that he was practicing the hobby of diving.
“I just love to dive anywhere, it’s calm under the water, it’s beautiful and I would love to dive all around the world,” he said.

Asked by one follower: “If you had to teach something, what would you teach?”
Hariri replied: “Scuba diving in spite of Mr. Berri.”

Former Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri released some stances on various levels while chatting with his “followers” through his account on Twitter, in the past two days.

On the Syrian level, Hariri said: “I’m sure that (Syrian President Bashar) Al-Assad is not in his best days… the Syrian regime will not change unless it was changed… (Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hasan) Nasrallah intends to support Al-Assad until the end, but change is definite and we must not fear that.”

Hariri further said: “what happened in South Africa, which everyone used to fear changed after centuries of racism and none of the fears were in their place.”

About the Future party and its current situation, the former PM said: “We don’t claim that we are the perfect organization, but I thank all the workers in the movement, men and women, for the efforts they made, and we are learning from our mistakes.”

Moreover, he promised to “fix the faults, especially those related to the Future party’s parliamentary bloc and its working methods,” and apologized for delaying the salaries of his party’s employees, which has been taking place for months now.

Regarding the Lebanese issue, Hariri assured that if his political party wins in the next parliamentary elections, he will not vote for Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, adding “and that is a promise.”

He said there was no contact with Change and Reform Parliamentary bloc MP Michel Aoun, while his relation with leader of the Lebanese forces Samir Gaegae was very firm, adding that Sami Jemayil “is a great man and we cooperate together.”

As for his relation with Head of the Progressive Socialist Party MP Walid Jumblatt, Hariri said: “Jumblatt is a leader that we deal with… when we disagreed he was honest with me,” and responded to a question about any regrets for the decisions he took in 2005 by “yes”.

On the personal level, Saad Hariri said he was in Saudi Arabia and will come back to Lebanon when he decided so, and spoke about his hobbies and interests that include diving, and responded to a request to write in the Arabic language saying: “I will make more efforts to type in Arabic next time.”
