GAZA, (PIC)-- Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoum castigated the recent accusations made by Fatah official Azzam Al-Ahmed that his Movement does not want reconciliation with its rivals as part of the joint media smear campaign launched by the Fatah-controlled Palestinian authority (PA) and the Israeli occupation against it.

Spokesman Barhoum told the Palestinian information center (PIC) on Wednesday that Al-Ahmed's accusations are aimed at covering up the crimes committed by Fatah and its institutions against Hamas cadres.

The spokesman also said that Al-Ahmed made such remarks to cover up the successive crises inside Fatah, stressing that Hamas is very concerned with the national reconciliation and showed flexibility during its talks with Fatah officials, but the other party was intransigent and persisted in arresting and torturing Hamas members and supporters in the West Bank.

He added that Fatah also did not respond to all appeals made by national parties and human rights organizations for the release of political detainees from its jails.

In this regard, member of Hamas's political bureau Mohamed Nazzal stated that Hamas is all for a political Palestinian reconciliation having clear foundations and not for a factional reconciliation because the dispute with its rivals is political par excellence.

Nazzal made his remarks in a ceremony held on Tuesday in Damascus on the second anniversary of Gaza war.

The Hamas official also voiced his optimism about the future of the Palestinian cause according to the current political landscape and stressed that the failure of the negotiation option adopted by the PA is a major victory for the Palestinian resistance.

In a separate context, senior Hamas official Khalil Al-Hayya told a news conference on Wednesday that the committee formed by Palestinian premier Ismail Haneyya to talk with factions on their participation in the a new Palestinian government is still awaiting a reply from these factions.

Hayya made his remarks following his meeting with premier Haneyya who delegated him to head this committee.

"We appreciate the position of the factions, and we hope that their response to our proposal on their participation in the government would be positive," he said.

The Hamas official stressed that this step emerges from the Palestinian government's keenness on promoting the political partnership in running the Palestinian people's affairs and its belief that Palestine is for all Palestinians.
