Poll: Mishaal tops list of popular Palestinian leaders

BALTIMORE, (PIC)-- The yearly opinion poll conducted by the American Maryland University this summer showed Khaled Mishaal, the political bureau chief of Hamas, as on top of Palestinian leaders enjoying popularity in the Palestinian arena.

The result proved that despite all Palestinian, Arab, and foreign attempts to distort and finish it off, Hamas Movement proved to be the hard number in the region and still enjoyed broad popularity.

According to the poll, Syrian president Bashar Al-Assad came first among Arab presidents who enjoy broad popularity in the Arab world.

Analysts opined that Assad’s active role in the Arab region in addition to his stands that reflect the Arab peoples' aspirations played a strong role in giving him such status.

Hizbullah leader Hassan Nasrullah, according to the poll, was the most popular political leader, which he also enjoyed in the past years, especially after the Israeli defeat at the hands of his party’s fighters in 2006.

However, Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadi Nejad, and Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez were the non-Arab presidents enjoying most popularity in the Arab world.

The poll targeted 4,000 Arabs in Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, and the UAE.
