Pharoah and Abbas wants to divert attention from Israel’s crime: The Problem is Hamas not the Brutal Siege

Hamas: Abbas wants to divert attention from Israel’s crime

GAZA, (PIC)-- The Movement of Hamas stated Wednesday that Mahmoud Abbas’s call for reconciliation and declared intention to send a high-ranking delegation of Fatah to the Gaza Strip are for media consumption and aimed to divert attention from the Freedom Flotilla massacre.

In a press statement to the Palestinian information center (PIC), Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri said that there was nothing new in Abbas’s call because he clearly stated that Hamas’s reservations would be discussed after the signing of Egypt’s reconciliation paper.

“All delegates of Fatah and independents loyal to it, who came to Gaza, had always the same demand, “Sign the Egyptian paper first” and this confirms that there has been no change in the position of Fatah toward the reconciliation and that it is just maneuvering,” the spokesman underlined.

He noted that the Fatah authority’s practices on the ground in the West Bank, especially its refusal to end political arrest or release dozens of Hamas cadres in its jails always prove that it is not serious about the reconciliation.

Senior Hamas official and lawmaker Salah Al-Bardawil also echoed what Abu Zhuri said about Abbas’s attempt to divert the attention of the media outlets from Israel’s assault on pro-Gaza activists.

Bardawil also strongly denounced Abbas for claiming his desire for the reconciliation while declaring his adherence to the option of negotiation with Israel, describing his speech today in this regard as a declaration of war on the Palestinian people and the reconciliation.

He added that Abbas declared his bias in favor of Israel’s crime against the activists of Freedom Flotilla when he talked about the resumption of negotiations with Israel while the blood of victims has not dried yet.

For its part, the Palestinian government in Gaza condemned the Fatah-controlled Palestinian Authority (PA) for its persistence in keeping its talks with Israel, despite the crime committed by Israel against Freedom Flotilla activists.

In a statement issued following its weekly cabinet meeting, the government described the position of the PA as irresponsible and called for stopping the peace negotiations with Israel in response to its crime.

It also expressed its appreciation to Turkish premier Recep Erdogan for his sincere positions toward Gaza and its people, which he voiced in his speech on Tuesday.

Palestinian lawmaker Abdelrahman Zeidan, for his part, expressed his fear that the PA in Ramallah could repeat its usual positions in cahoots with Israel and save it from being condemned and punished internationally for its deadly attack on anti-siege activists, and called for stopping all kinds of negotiations with Israel in response to its crime.

In the same context, Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoum said that Fatah faction’s talk about sending a delegation of Fatah is aimed to cover up its ferocious security campaign against Hamas cadres and leaders in the West Bank.

Spokesman Barhoum added in a press statement to the PIC on Tuesday that Abbas’s security militias’ persistence in arresting, torturing and holding trials against Hamas cadres and supporters in the West Bank reflects Fatah’s bad faith toward the national reconciliation.

In a related incident, Associated Press news agency reported that Abbas made a telephone call to UN secretary-general Ban Ki-moon on Tuesday less than 24 hours after Israel attacked the Freedom Flotilla and told him his intention to continue the indirect negotiations with Israel.

He also told Ki-moon that what happened to the aid convoy had nothing to do with the peace talks between the two sides.

Palestinian businessman Munib Al-Masri denied on Wednesday Abbas’s allegation that Hamas refused to receive the delegation of Fatah during the coming days to discuss the reconciliation issue.

Masri told journalists after Abbas’s speech today that Hamas just postponed the issue for few days because of what happened to the Freedom Flotilla convoy.

In a separate incident, the Hamas Movement in the West Bank reported today that Abbas’s security militias stepped up their campaigns of arrests, summonses and torture against its cadres and supporters during last May.

It said that the militias kidnapped 230 of its cadres including dozens of national figures and members of municipal councils, and transferred more than 20 others imprisoned in their jails to hospitals after their exposure to excruciating torture.

Egypt blocks travel of health minister via Rafah terminal

[ 02/06/2010 - 03:45 PM ]

GAZA, (PIC)-- The Egyptian authorities refused to allow the travel of Dr. Basem Naim, the Palestinian health minister, via the Rafah border terminal.

The PIC reporter quoted a reliable source, who wished to remain anonymous, as saying that Naim was scheduled to attend a scientific, medical conference in Algeria.

The source expressed surprise at the Egyptian step, which took place on Tuesday, after its announcement that Rafah border terminal would be open without conditions for an indefinite period.

Meanwhile, Dr. Mohammed Awad, the cabinet's secretary, said in a statement on Wednesday that the blood of martyrs and wounded in the Freedom Flotilla should open the way for ending the Gaza siege.

He said that Israeli savage attack should end the Arab and international silence regarding that siege.
