RAMALLAH, (PIC)-- Israeli occupation forces (IOF) manning Taiba crossing forced a mother of one of the Palestinian prisoners to strip in a closed room for search, the prisoners' center for studies reported on Thursday.

It said in a statement that the incident took place a couple of days ago with the mother from Tulkarem while on her way to visit her son who suffers from a serious heart ailment and who is not accorded proper treatment on the part of the Israeli prisons authority.

Female conscripts detained the mother for three hours inside a room full of electronic devices at the pretext she was in possession of "banned material" and forced her to strip her clothes, which were passed through those devices for a check.

The mother, who relayed the incident, said that the news reached her son and he collapsed as a result and went on a hunger strike for four days.

The prison administration claimed that a new private security guard company was assigned to run the crossing and was in a training session and its personnel picked that prisoner's mother to pass through their new measures.

The director of the center, Ra'fat Hamduna, asked the Red Cross to ensure safe passage for all relatives of prisoners without provocation, warning that such behavior could lead to strong protests in prisons.
