Hamas Smells a RAT: Obama’s remarks on Gaza insincere and empty

[ 10/06/2010 - 05:13 PM ]

GAZA, (PIC)-- The Movement of Hamas stated Thursday that the remarks made by US president Barack Obama in which he described the situation in Gaza as unbearable are insincere and empty words.

In a press release, Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri said that Obama knows well that the 400 million dollars which he promised to send to Gaza will only reach the Palestinian authority (PA) which will seize the money for itself.

Spokesman Abu Zuhri stressed that his Movement finds nothing new in Obama’s remarks because the practical American position towards the Israeli blockade on Gaza is based on thwarting any international move to end it.

For his part, Dr. Yousuf Rizqa, the political advisor to the Palestinian premier, stressed that Obama’s remarks about the situation in Gaza are an attempt to circumvent the legitimate demands of the Palestinian people.

Rizqa underscored in a press release that the US administration is still biased in favor of the Israeli occupation and working on undermining the Palestinian rights.

Commenting on Obama’s optimism that the current year would see progress in the peace process, the advisor said this tone is an attempt by the American administration to embellish its image in the middle east and cover up its blind bias towards Israel.

There are no indicators to the possibility of making peace because of Israel’s intransigent attitude towards the key issues, the Palestinian officials added.

In a new development, an informed source affiliated with Fatah faction revealed that latest moves made by Mahmoud Abbas and his successive visits outside Palestine since the Freedom Flotilla massacre are aimed at ensuring that Fatah and its authority in Ramallah will not be excluded from any plans to lift the siege on Gaza.

The source told the Palestinian information center (PIC), on condition of anonymity, that there are also similar moves made by other officials in the Fatah central council and the PA as well as by some Arab countries especially Egypt.

The source cited what the Al-Quds newspaper said that the main goal of Abbas’s visit to Washington and his meeting with Obama was to stress the importance of linking between Gaza and the West Bank in any agreement on ending the blockade.

It affirmed that Fatah official Mohamed Dahlan also echoed the same thing during his meeting Wednesday with director of the Egyptian intelligence Omar Suleiman.

Dahlan warned Suleiman that if the PA was excluded from any agreement regarding the Rafah border crossing and Gaza port, while there are still pressures on Hamas to sign Egypt’s reconciliation paper, Hamas would achieve a strategic victory, the source added.

In the same context, French minister of foreign affairs Bernard Kouchner told journalists on Wednesday on the sidelines of an economic forum held in Montreal that he is pessimistic about a proposal made by his country following Israel’s attack on Freedom Flotilla convoy which calls for making the European union supervise the Rafah crossing.

“It is not certain if this will succeed because our friends in Egypt (and Istael) do not want us to speak directly with Hamas,” Kouchner literally said.

"Egypt, like any other country in the world, has the right to approve or deny the entry of anyone to their land. However, it allowed anyone to arrive into Cairo and welcomed them like any other visitors. At the same time, in situation like borders with Palestine and Israel, no one can blame Egypt for being extra careful in accepting or denying who will travel into Sinai and who will not."

"without any international guarantees that Palestine (Dahlan) is going to be autonomous in controlling its own borders for the good of the people in Palestine and not to serve factions whose agendas are not acceptable to any patriot."

"Only apologizing to Egypt in a public press conference can make one forgive these fatal mistakes which made Egypt sound as THE enemy deflecting our sight from the real enemy and the real reason behind all this atrocities that Gazans and Palestinians live in, ISRAEL."
