GAZA - Tens of thousands of Palestinians are packed at the "Midan Falasteen" in the central Gaza City today, to commemorate the 22nd anniversary of the Hamas movements founding. In his speech, from a podium decorated with flowers, the Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh hailed the large gathering of people, as a sign of victory over what he said: "Where the Israelis attempted to eliminate Hamas Movement".

He pointed out that -"Those who planned the disproportionate and immoral war on Gaza and also executed it, were hoping that they would not find all these people gathered here today, waving flags and carrying banners. However, what we all can conclude today is that, Hamas did not fall down or become weaker after the assault on us, but to the contrary, the enemy and its leaders are on the edge of a collapse." .

Ismail Haniyeh also said that, Hamas Movement will never bow down to the Israelis military pressure, which one year ago in Gaza, killed more than 1.400 Palestinians and wounded over 5.000. Nor will Hamas yield to the international blockade of Gaza, which is aimed to prevent us access, circumventing us so that we would give up.The banishment of construction materials needed in the rebuilding of our devastated Gaza after the Israelis war, is the prevention of access to a progress for Gaza community.

Haniyeh said that: "after four years of blockade,we say that strong fortresses will never collapse - and that the castles never will be penetrated and ...we will never make political concessions. Hamas overcame the arrests by Palestine Authority in 1996, we have overcome the targeted killings of our leaders. And we overcame the expulsion to Lebanon, which instead gave us a central position and depth in the region and in the rest of the world.

In his speech this early winter Monday,Haniyeh also criticized the leadership of PLO, for contradicting the constitution in an expected vote intended to unilaterally "extend" a new Mahmoud Abbas term without Palestinian democratic elections.According to the Palestinian Basic Law, Abbas’ term expired in January 2009, however unconstitutionally PLO decreed then, that Abbas should stay on as president.

"We say to the PLO Central Council members who will meet in Ramallah on Tuesday, that any decision that contradicts the constitution and contradicts the will of our people, will not and can never be binding. In the light of consensus and national reconciliation Dr Aziz Dweik would remain as the legitimate chairperson of the PLC ( Palestine Legislative Council) until free and fair elections are held" Haniyeh added.

"Hamas participated in the elections and proved to the world that Hamas have a political system which is democratic and based on accuracy and honesty". Haniyeh dismissed those voices who accuse Hamas of being responsible for the ongoing political division,he clarifies that:"We( Hamas) are not striving to form an Islamic emirate in Gaza. Our goal is to free Palestine – meaning, all of Palestine."

The Palestinian people were tired of the disorganization and corruption within Fatah and voted for "Change and Reform"- following a landslide victory for Hamas over Fatah in the Palestinian elections 2006. - As a result, Hamas won a powerful majority in the Palestinian Legislative Council on January 25, 2006. With 74 of 132 seats including independent legislators whom campaigned together with Hamas - Hamas movement dwarfed the former governing party and their competitor Fatah.

And Hamas popularity has risen since the Israelis so called,"Cast Lead"massacre on Gaza.Hamas is still the most popular political party among the Palestinians, and would win again, if there were democratic Palestinian elections today. Hamas discipline and moral strength and Fatah's weakness is today becoming even more noticeable.

In Gaza, despite the unmeasurable hardship dealing with the shamelessly officially organized and encouraged massacres and persecutions against Hamas, Hamas movement stands firm and steadfast in the front line of the Palestinian resistance, - meanwhile in the West Bank the abductions and the torture to eliminate Hamas political supporters and members continues. As the impoverished and tormented residents of Gaza continues to sift through the rubble and deeply grieving their dead, Mahmoud Abbas and his US tooled-up "security forces", arrests Palestinians who dare to openly advocate dissenting political views.

How do you feel when you think about that !
